Tirta Gangga is a former royal palace located on the eastern island of Bali, Indonesia. Located about 5 kilometers from the city of Karangasem, the location is close to Mount Agung. This park is very famous in Bali for its water palace which is owned by the Karangasem Kingdom.
Tirta Gangga literally means water from the Ganges River which is a symbol of respect for the Balinese Hindu community. This name refers to the water palace built in 1948 by the King of Karangasem, namely Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem Agung.
However, this name is also used to refer to the area which includes the water palace and the surrounding fertile countryside.
The Tirta Gangga Water Palace is a maze of ponds with fountains surrounded by a garden with lush trees and exotic statues. The complex with an area of one hectare was built in 1946 by the late King of Karangasem but almost completely destroyed as a result of the eruption of the highest mountain in Bali, namely Mount Agung in 1963.
Then it was reconstructed and rebuilt like the original. The area around the Tirta Gangga tourist attraction is also famous for its rice terraces that stretch widely on either side.
