Monkey Forest Ubud

Mandala Suci Wenara Wana, also known as the Monkey Forest Ubud, is a nature reserve and temple complex in Padangtegal, Ubud, Bali. This sanctuary is home to about 749 long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis). The population includes 63 adult males, 34 juvenile males, 219 adult females, 29 juvenile females, 167 juveniles (2-3 years old), 118 younger juveniles (1-2 years old), 63 infants (5-12 months old), and 56 newborns.

The Monkey Forest Ubud is home to six distinct groups of monkeys, each occupying different areas: the Pura group, the New Forest group, the Central Point group, the Eastern group, the Michelin group, and the Graves group. This popular tourist destination in Ubud attracts over 100.000 visitors each month. Spanning approximately 12.5 hectares, the forest is currently expanding southward and is home to at least 186 species of trees.

The Monkey Forest Ubud, situated in the village of Padangtegal, is home to three temples: Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, Pura Beji, and Pura Prajapati. Local villagers who work directly at the forest manage the area, with oversight provided by Mandala Suci Wenara Wana. Their efforts focus on preserving the site’s sanctity and maintaining its popularity as a destination for both domestic and international tourists.
